Founders Note: Built for Women, From Day One

Heidi Davis is co-founder of Peri and a scientist with over a decade of experience across nutrition, molecular medicine, and health technology, focused on closing the gender health data gap through personalised, data-driven insights for women. Dr. Donal O’Gorman is co-founder of Peri with over 30 years of experience in exercise science and academic research, dedicated to translating physiology into real-world solutions for women’s health.

Peri wasn’t adapted for women later.

Peri wasn’t retrofitted.
And it wasn’t built on assumptions borrowed from male bodies.

Peri was designed for women from the very beginning — with a long-term goal in mind: to help change the future of women’s health, not just manage symptoms in the moment.

That decision shaped everything.

Why women first had to come first

For decades, women’s health data has been treated as secondary. Women’s symptoms were labelled as subjective, inconsistent, or “just part of ageing,” while the underlying physiology went largely unmeasured. Most health technologies were built using data that didn’t reflect women’s bodies — especially during critical transitions like perimenopause.

We knew that if Peri was going to truly support women, it had to do more than track symptoms. It had to help build understanding — not just for today, but for women’s long-term health.

That meant starting from scratch.

What women first actually means

Designing Peri for women meant rethinking everything, from the data we collect to the patterns we look for and the way insights are delivered.

It means:

  • Measuring physiology continuously, not relying on memory or snapshots
  • Capturing symptoms that often happen at night or go unnoticed
  • Looking at how symptoms cluster and interact over time
  • Interpreting data in context, recognising that women’s health is dynamic, not static

The insights you receive are shaped around women’s real physiology and real lives — not averages, assumptions, or one-size-fits-all models.

Perimenopause is a critical health window

Perimenopause is often framed as something to get through. We see it differently.

This stage represents a powerful window for awareness and prevention. Hormonal shifts during midlife influence sleep, stress systems, metabolism, vascular function, mood, and temperature regulation — systems that matter not just now, but for cardiovascular, brain, and metabolic health later in life.

When women understand what’s changing during this window, they are better positioned to make informed choices, advocate for care, and support their long-term wellbeing.

That’s why Peri exists.

From data to insight, from insight to impact

Collecting data alone isn’t enough. What matters is turning that data into understanding women can actually use.

Peri uses AI to translate complex physiological signals into clear, text-based insights. You don’t need to decode graphs or analyse tables. We do the heavy lifting, so you can focus on understanding your body and what it needs — now and in the years ahead.

Our mission is not short-term optimisation. It’s long-term empowerment.

Why this changes everything

When women are measured properly, patterns emerge.
When patterns emerge, understanding follows.
And when women understand their bodies, they are better equipped to protect their health over the long term.

Peri was built to help create that future — one where women’s health is studied properly, supported earlier, and designed around women from the start.

That has been our mission from day one.
